Bus subsidy system needs revamp

Jerry Gould, the Labour candidate for Ouse Valley in May’s County Council elections has hit out in the Sussex Express against the current system of subsidies given to private bus operators.

Many routes that people living in rural East Sussex rely on to get to work have suffered from reduced timetables and Jerry is campaigning for bus travel to be given far greater attention. In particular, subsidies are, in some cases, actually hindering improvements and must be directed to routes that are central to the rural economy.
